I'm going to get a degree in biochem, and I will take the DATs and get into dental school....while I'm in dental school, can I work as a dental hygenist? Also, do some employers offer to pay the costs of dental school if I offer to work for them in exchange?
If I'm pre-dent in undergrad school, can I work as a dental hygenist while I'm getting thru dental school?
My daughter became a hygenist. She wanted to do the same thing.
Problem... Dental offices and class hours are the same!
Reply:it all depends on what office hires you. some offices will hire under school conditions, and some won't. get you resume out there and see what happens, good luck to you, also, will the school help place you, or do you have an internship somewhere that will hire you?
Reply:YOU CAN ONLY DO LEGAL DENTAL HYGIENE IF YOU ARE A LICENSED DENTIST OR HYGIENIST.
WHILE IN SCHOOL YOU CAN PRACTICE LEARNING TO DO HYGIENE, BUT YOU WON'T BE PAID FOR THIS.
YOU CANNOT FIND A WAY TO BARTER FOR YOUR COST IN LEARNING TO BE A DENTIST.
Reply:You can work as a dental assistant, but not as a hygienist AFAIK in any state without successfully completing a dental hygiene training program and getting a license.
If you're a chairside assistant, you may learn more about the nuts and bolts of dental practice than you will as a hygienist anyhow. But the pay isn't as good as a hygienist's.
