Hi! I just became a junior at my university, and although I had considered a career in the medical field, I realized that working with really sick people was very depressing for me. I couldn't handle it. Because of this, I decided not to major in a a science field because I did not want to be a doctor anymore. Recently, a friend of mine asked me if I had ever considered becoming a dentist. She said that this field would involve my interest in medicine without having to work with really sick people, something that, as I mentioned earlier, made me very sad. I looked up info on a career in dentistry, and I am fascinated by it! Unfortunately, I am currently pursuing a non-science major (English to be exact), and I have a very good G.P.A. C
Is there a way to work my major and give dental school a shot?
Thank you,
Jose W.
Can I get into Dental School without a science major?
You don't have to have a science major but you will have to take all of the premed classes and, as far as I know, you will also have to take the MCAT. Dental students spend the vast majority of their first two years in dental school school with medical students - they have to do the same work with cadavers and all of that that medical students have to do (my friend who just completed her first year of dental school has great stories about this). If you're comfortable with that, then go for it!
Reply:Are you really comfortable with the idea of spending half your day working in stranger's mouths and smelling everything they've recently eaten, drunk and smoked. I couldn't do it
Reply:yes but you still need to fulfill the premed requirements
they vary by school but are generally include 2 semesters of all sciences (chem, bio, physics) and biochem, orgo 1 orgo 2 and the labs for each
youll also need up to calculus 3 , and possibly diff eq and lin alg
and 2 humanities
2 social sciences
dental school is esentially medical school you can go in with any major you just need the pre dental requirements and generally a 3.0 or above
