Crazy for considering dental school?

I am 31 years old and I am nearing completion of my BSN (nursing). So far I have a 4.0 GPA on my RN-BSN work, and I had a 3.something on my ADN work. A univeristy near my home is opening a dental school in 2011. Am I completely crazy for considering applying to dental school? I will be 34 then, my son will be 13, and I will have 11 years of nursing experience. Does anyone have any dental school experience to speak of? I just wonder if it's way too hard to pass if you're married and have a child. Or is being an older, more focused student advantageous?

If you are willing to get all the pre-req courses you should definitely go for it. I believe being older gives you an advantage.... you will be more focused. Don't let your age deter you from something that can possibly bring you happiness in the end.

Good Luck
Reply:Not only are you not crazy but your medical experience will make you an ideal candidate.

Thanks

Reply:I think it's a great idea, if you have the stamina and resources for it. A new school is good as there will be less competition. It will be hard on your family, but if they are in agreement and you plan ways to make it work, then you should be fine. Get the dental school admission test and go through it to make sure you can get a decent score. Good luck!
