What does it mean when a dental school states, “The admissions committee does not consider highly those applicants who have been enrolled for more than one-third of coursework (both general and required courses) in community colleges or junior colleges.”
I have about 135 credit hours from a community college, so if the dental school has that statement on their website, will it be waste of my money to apply? I am taking upper-level science classes to show that i can handle hard science classes. I really want to do dentistry, but since I went to community college, I won't be able to achieve my goals? Community college was not easy at all. I studied all night and all weekends to get an A in org. chem. class that was 6 hr long, but at the end, it was not worth it!!. This will get me depressed to death. Please, help.
Won't get accepted to DENTAL SCHOOL?
Ah, Dental school is very hard to get in to. It's the hardest medical field to get into, actually (assuming you want to be a dentist). It's probably close to the hardest field period to get into.
If you're just interested in dental hygene the path is not nearly as difficult, but I'm assuming that's not where you're going.
Universities with dental programs usually give priority to students from that university. Students applying for elsewhere have a much smaller chance of getting in, and community college courses make it even worse.
They also look highly upon having your bachelor of science completed.
Chances are you don't stand a chance in the world getting in, if I'm being honest. You're going to be going against people applying from that university, who probably average nearly an A (4.0) GPA, and the chances of getting in are usually no higher than 10% of applicants accepted.
Not to mention you'd have to go out of your way and through a lot of trouble to get a really good DAT score if you want to even stand a chance at getting in.
Reply:That means your community college course won't mean squat, at the dental school, and will have to start all over - despite the fact you already know what you're doing
