Do you have to be accepted into dental school for dental hygiene?

I am currently a sophmore at a university and still taking my required courses. I was just wondering if you have to be accepted to dental school to be a dental hygienist. Also, what classes do I need to take? (so I have an idea for next semester). thanks for the help.

Do you have to be accepted into dental school for dental hygiene?
well yes of course. I am a dentist and dental assistant!
Reply:You have to be accepted into an accredited dental hygiene program. Only some dental schools offer a dental hygiene program. You may want to call and inquire about the hygiene program of the school you're interested in attending and have them provide you with a list of prerequisites courses (school requirement may be different) Generally, you are required to taken anatomy, microbiology, pharm.,and chemistry.
