What are my chances of getting into dental school?

I am 27 years old and in my sophomore year in college. I go to school part-time because I have to work to support myself. My overall gpa is a 3.6 but I got a B minus in general chemistry I. I never had any chemistry prior to taking this class. I am worried that I won't be accepted to dental school in the future because of this grade. Should I take the class over again or have I ruined my chances? (I'm taking general chem II this semester and doing better this time.)

What matters most is your overall GPA, not a mediocre (not even really low) grade in one course, regardless of what that course is. Keep up your grades in other classes, get some volunteer experience at a local dentist (so that you can get good, personalized letters of reference), and you should be in great shape. Dental schools can be competitive, but not _that_ competitive -- a 3.6 GPA is a rather good one for most postgraduate institutions.
Reply:A B- is fine. It's not worth taking over. Dental schools also look considerably at your DAT score. That's where you really want to excel at. Getting from the mid to upper 20's will cement your chance of getting into a good Dental program. Try also doing Research for a University or elsewhere, to gain experience and to give you an upper-hand over other applicants.
