How good are my chances of being accepted into a dental school for DDS?

I've been a dental hygienist for last 4 years. I love dentistry and feel I would make an excellent dentist too. I graduated though with a 2.77, because I had a baby 3 months before school ended. My DAT is a 19. I would just like to know if my ending GPA from my RDH BS ruined my chances, and if so how may I help myself for acceptance into a program?

It can't hurt to apply. Definitely give it a shot!! Although your grades aren't the best, you do have a lot of experience which is a plus. Most people I know that are or have applied to dental school did not have near that much experience. Most only worked in a dentist office part time while in college.
Reply:Dental schools are pretty competitive, and post-doctoral programs in dentistry are even more competitive. As the mom of a post-doc graduating from Harvard in endodontics in a few days, I would say your chances are not too good, but if it's what you really want, don't let the past stand in your way. Apply to the colleges you would consider attending, and give it your best shot. And don't give up if you don't get accepted the first year you apply. Keep trying. Sometimes persistence is rewarded.
