How hard is it to get into a DENTAL SCHOOL?
its about as difficult as medical school. it isnt just gpa...its your gpa, your scores on the DAT (dental admissions test), extracurricular activities, etc. they look at the big picture, not just one specific thing such as gpa.
Reply:I work at a dental school and the GPA is looked upon very heavily but is not your only concern. First of all you will need a Bachelors degree in something, anything just to get in. If you have a degree outside of a general science you will need extensive prereq's (chem, bio, micro bio, human A%26amp;P etc.) before you will be considered. Second, you will need to take the DMAT (Dental-Medical Admissions Test) which you will need to score quite high on. The competition is high as there are only 56 dental schools in the US. Next, you will interview with several instructors at the school(s) you are applying with. This may include the dean, assoc. dean and other instructor and/or professor's. You want to have your **** together for these interviews. You may also need to write an essay. GPA's around 3.5 have been accepted to our school but most are in the range of 3.7-3.9. If you truly have a passion for a career in dentistry go for it. It's a lot of work, a LOT of work. But you will have a great career, earn great money, and be well respected. I would recommend visiting your local school (if there is one in you area) and talking to the folks in admissions. Good luck!
