I am currently a sophmore in a University and I have seen my grades declining lately? I want to become a denstist and that's all I want to do? But I need to get a realty check and figure out if I can make to a dental school? What do I need to do the next two years of my undergrad to get there? Please help!!!
Ohh...do dentall schools require you to work at a dentist or volunteeer at a dentist's??
How hard is it to get accepted to a dental school?
I am a dentist. I recently graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. To answer your question, to get into a good dental school you'll need to do a few things. First, you will need pretty much straight A's at least in science prerequisites like organic chem, biology, etc. If you cannot get A's in undergrad (where you have 15-18 credits), the selection committee may not think you can pass courses in dental school (23-26 credits including 10 midterms and 10 finals each quarter), much less national boards (eight hour tests covering first and last two years of dental school). The material is not difficult to understand, there is just a lot of it. Second, a very good DAT score will get your foot into the door. Being good at standardized tests is a skill needed in dental school. Third, you need to spend time shadowing dentists to know what you are getting into and to get a personal reference for dental school applications. Will also need personal references from a professor at your school. Sorry TA's don't count. There is more to being a good dentist than being smart or even being good with your hands. You need to connect with patients and be able to communicate effectively with them and your staff.
At UW, about 800 people apply each year, 55 get accepted. You need outstanding grades, good references, and a ridiculous DAT score just to get your foot in the door for an interview. You need to find a way to make yourself stand out. You also need to learn how to spell.
Reply:u need good grades. so if that is what u wnat, u need to focus and get urself together and get back in the game.
