if i have a B.S in food nutrition-dietetics and food admin, could i apply/ get accepted into dental school? i would like to get into UNIVERSTIY OF THE PACIFIC DENTAL SCHOOL IN S.F. CA
Dental school?
Just like there's a list of "premed" classes for people who want to go to medical school, there's a list of "predent" classes for those who want to go to dental school....there's more variation among the dental schools, so go to the websites of the schools you are interested in to see what their requirements are (you'll also likely need to have dental volunteer/shadowing experience, too).
If you didn't take all the necessary courses as an undergrad, you can take the classes either informally through a university, or enroll in a "postbacc" program (programs designed for people with BAs/BSs who need to go back to school to do the premed/predent/prevet requirements). Postbacc programs are more for people starting from scratch, whereas if you're just missing a class or two, you might as well just take it on your own. Good luck!
Reply:Check the school's website and it should tell you what classes are required. At UNC-Chapel Hill you need about four classes, specifically Bio with labs and then you need to pass/submit the DAT (Dental Admissions Test) which tests your Biology and cognitive skills, etc. Otherwise you can major in anything, but it usually helps to major it the sciences.
