Reply:there is only one answer to this long question
1. GPA. all you need is a good gpa. and
2. dont worry abotu which school to go to now. you havent even started undergrad. worry about this first. the others will come. just aim for the best score possible.
Reply:visit each school. talk to students and get an idea what they think of their school.

Reply:My advice as a dental student:
1) Major in something you enjoy while taking all the required science courses (currently 2 semesters of inorganic chemistry with a lab, 2 semesters organic chemistry w/ lab, lots of advanced biology 16-24 minimum credits, 2 semesters of physics w/lab, biochemistry)
Most dental schools are not at all biased about having a science major, in fact, it will often set you apart from other applicants if you don't. Being published for research both in the sciences and also in humanities made a world of a difference during the application process for me. Still, over half of my classmates majored in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, neurology, etc, etc.
2) In terms of choosing a school, I would advise you to do some research. Most UC schools have a health professions office with the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools which will give you all the information you need to choose a school that's right for you. Not to mention the fact that dental school application is incredibly difficult anymore (There are only 50 schools nationwide, and most receive at least 2,000 applications for 30-200 spots.) Other factors which you can find in the ADEA handbook include: cost of the school, average DAT scores and GPA's of entering students, and various focuses of the different schools.
This site may be very helpful for you as it gives a lot of the information found in the ADEA handbook:
