Even though I really would like to go to medical school, my grades are not THAT high and I've heard the standards for dental school a little bit lower. I understand that it is still very difficult and competitive, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to know/what I need to be doing to apply for dental school.
I'm finishing my second year in college and I am a biology major. My school has a pre-dental/pre-med program (not major) and that's what I'm following.
I just would like to know...what should my GPA be? When should I take the DAT? How well should I do on the DAT? When should I begin applying to dental school? How many bio and chem classes do I really need for the DAT?
If someone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it :)
Dental school?
Hey! I'm interested in becoming a dentist as well! : )
So to first answer some of your questions, your GPA should be somewhere around 3.0 - 3.5 or above for dental school. I know when you read the statistics the universities put up the GPA seems kind of high but keep in mind these a mean GPA scores. So it doesn't necessarily mean that every student accepted falls into that range. The prerequisites are one full year of biology, chemistry and physics. Your science GPA is very important and extracurricular activities are weighted as well. In addition to that these days school are looking for more rounded students so it would probably be in your best interest to take a few courses in social science and English.
